Whats New?

Innovation, Rejuvenation and Expansion for 5773

There are many milestones to look forward to this coming year. Here are just some of them:

Education

  • New pluralistic preschool classes in Holon and Kehillat Mevakshei Derech in Jerusalem
  • State schools across the country will begin using the IMPJ “Jewish Culture & Heritage” curriculum
  • Pilot Twinning Program: together with JAFI, the IMPJ will match 10 Israeli schools with 10 schools abroad in a Bar/Bat Mitzvah program

 

The newly dedicated Sidney & Freda Davidson Educational and Cultural Center at Kehillat Mevakshei Derech

Youth

  • An upcoming German-Israel seminar will bring Netzer Germany youth together with Noar Telem
  • The new “LeTaken” Seminar will promote social action and involvement among teens
  • Havaya summer Camp will expand its program for children with special needs

Young Adults

  • The Mechina pre-army program will celebrate its 10th year
  • The IDF’s Nachal Brigade will receive its first Mechina Garin in November

Community Development

  • New minyanim in Herzliya Pituach, Kibbutz Beit Hashita, and Shoham
  • The Daniel Centers will add a fourth High Holiday minyan at the Tzahala School
  • The Poleg neighborhood of Netanya will hold their first Yom Kippur services
  • Four communities will host their first Simchat Torah Second Hakafot in Haifa, Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Jerusalem

 

Kehillat Natan-Ya’s New Facility

IRAC – Israel Religious Action Center

  • IRAC will continue to fight gender segregation on buses, in advertisements and wherever else it occurs
  • IRAC will hold letter-writing campaigns to raise public awareness on religious injustices
  • The Legal Action Center for Olim will assist new immigrants with gaining full citizenship and recognition for their Jewish conversions

 

Protest to gain funding non-Orthodox Rabbis

Keren Bachavod – for Humanitarian Aid and Social Action

  • Life Skills Program will continue to assist single-parent families, migrant workers, asylum seekers and people who have left orthodoxy
  • The coexistence program will continue to offer Muslim, Jewish, Gypsy and Christian youth to become involved in hands-on activities to play, learn and volunteer together
  • Thousands of needy throughout Israel will benefit from the holiday food drives for Rosh Hashanah, Passover, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Eid El-Fitr, Easter and Christmas

Other Activities

  • The 10th year of Riding-4-Reform will add two new routes: Riding-4-Reform Light and Hiking-4-Reform, to take place in March 2013
  • A 2nd Golf Fore! Reform tournament will take place this coming May
  • The IMPJ will publish “Renewing the Covenant” by Rabbi Eugene B. Borowitz in Hebrew
  • Work will begin updating the Reform Festival Prayer Book
